10. Lake Matano – Indonesia


Also known as Matana, Lake Matano is the deepest lake in Indonesia. It is situated in South Sulawesi region of Indonesia. Only 382 m above from sea level means that its deepest point is below the sea level. Its maximum depth is 590 m.

9. Crater Lake – USA


Situated in Crater Lake National Park and known for deep blue water plus clarity, Crater lake is one of its kind, located in US state of Oregon. Legend says that this lake fills a 655 m deep caldera (forms after the land collision, which in turn happens after Volcanic eruption). Since no river flows into or out of this lake, all of its water comes in the form of rain or snowfall.

Apart from being the deepest Lake in North America, Great Slave Lake is also the second largest lake in Northwest Canada, after Great Bear Lake. Its maximum depth is 614 m.

Like Aral Sea, Issyk Kul is an endorheic Lake, in Kyrgyzstan. But its is not as wrecked as Aral Sea. It is tenth largest lake in the World in terms of volume and second-largest saline lake after Caspian Sea. Surrounded by some snowy peaks though, it never freezes. Thus its literal meaning in Kyrgyz language is “Hot Lake”.Its maximum depth is 668 m.
